Google Analytics 4 is the newest version of GA and is a complete overhaul of how GA collects data. While Universal Analytics (or GA3) used the same Data Model since it’s inception, GA4 uses a new “event-based” data model which requires a new data syntax to collect and populate data.
However this new syntax allows users to create more open-ended funnels and conversion models than what existed in the previous version, so it’s a step in the right direction.
GA4 has a simple and easy to use integration with GTM which makes installation a breeze and the adding of events and conversions pretty easy as well.
Enhanced E-commerce Tracking, which will populate order data, coupons, values etc. is more complex and will cover that at the end of the Unit, but for now we will deploy a simple GA4 to track user & session data.
