Triggers are exactly what they sound like, the technical definition for when a tag should fire. These triggers can be based on any number of “and/or” criteria – from any number of conditions, which range from the most simple of conditions, such as a page view, to the most complex organizational-specific requirements.
When setting up your triggers it’s important to test these triggers through GTM’s native “preview” mode, which will allow you to track and see why your tag did or did not fire, based on the trigger conditions you’ve set up.
